Looking at the past my work seeks to illustrate where I and others have been as a way of understanding and appreciating where we come from both personally and as a community. I am interested in the human figure and utilise this to communicate a narrative by focusing on people and their stories. My Welsh heritage is naturally embedded in my work often drawing upon people and communities within Wales, Welsh history and notable cultural figures. I am passionate about folk music and its storytelling qualities which I seek to weave into my work especially through accompanying my pieces with folk music which I write and sing. I combine illustration with raised components to bring my work to life by making papercut dioramas, using paper layering techniques and experimenting with different forms of mounting my illustrations. I primarily use pens, but also use acrylic paint, watercolours and have recently been experimenting with digital illustration.
